Xia Qing was born in November 1959 in Hailar District, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia. He graduated from Inner Mongolia Zhalantun Normal School with a major in fine arts, the Year Course Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor’s degree, and the Oil Painting Department of the School of Fine Arts at the Central University for Nationalities with a master’s degree. He has served as the head of the Fine Arts Department and associate professor at Beijing Zhongguancun College, and is currently a distinguished professor and master’s supervisor at the School of Arts at Chongqing University. He is a member of the China Literary and Art Volunteers Association, the China Artists Association, and the Beijing Artists Association.

His major exhibition projects include:

 

 

    • In 1995, his oil painting work “Jiya” won the gold medal award in oil painting at the 2nd National Ethnic Art Exhibition (“Hundred Flowers Award”) held at the National Ethnic Culture Palace in Beijing.

 

    • In 2000, his oil painting work “Still Life” was selected for the “20th Anniversary Exhibition of the Beijing Artists Association” held at the National Art Museum of China.

 

    • In 2002, his oil painting work “Letter from Afar” was selected for the “16th New Artists Exhibition of the China Artists Association” held at the Yan Huang Art Museum in Beijing.

 

    • In November 2008, his oil painting work “Wordless Song” was selected for the “First Oil Painting Annual Exhibition of the Beijing Oil Painting Society in 2008” held at the National Art Museum of China.

 

    • In 2009, his oil painting work “Beautiful Scenery of Mountains and Waters” was exhibited at the “50th Anniversary Exhibition of the School of Fine Arts at the Central University for Nationalities” held at the National Art Museum of China.

 

    • In 2012, his oil painting work “Horizon” was selected for the “Vast Grasslands – Chinese Art Exhibition” jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Publicity Department of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Committee of the Communist Party of China, the China Artists Association, and the National Art Museum of China.

 

    • In 2014, his oil painting work “Colorful Guizhou” was selected for the “Colorful Guizhou – Chinese Art Exhibition” jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the China Artists Association, and the National Art Museum of China.

 

    • In 2019, his large-scale oil painting work “Sky Eye” was selected for the “Continuing to Move Forward with Original Aspirations – Large-scale Art Creation Project” exhibition jointly sponsored by the Publicity Department, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture, and China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and undertaken by the China Artists Association. His works are permanently exhibited at the National Exhibition Center.
    • In January 2023, his oil painting work “In That Distant Place” was selected for the “Chinese Small Fine Art Masterpieces Exhibition” sponsored by the National Art Museum of China.
